We have done the research for you and below are three qualities to look out for:

When You're in Intense Pain

No one likes intense pain. The type of pain that hurts every second can be hard to get over. Make sure you try to get into the dentist right away. Until then, apply cold compresses with ice to the area every 10 to 20 minutes. Finally, you can take acetaminophen according to the label instructions.

If you Have a Possible Broken Jaw

Do not attempt to move anything. Tie a towel around your head to keep your jaw in place. You can also use cold compresses to help with the swelling.

Missing or Chipped Teeth

Losing a natural tooth can be quite a shock. When this happens to a baby, there is really nothing you can do. The adult teeth will come in later to replace the tooth. With an adult tooth, try to keep the tooth in it's socket until you get emergency dentistry. You can try the same thing with a chipped tooth.

This isn't always possible though. If you have your tooth in a container, put it in milk, saliva, or water. You can clean off the tooth with water if it's dirty, but do not scrub it, especially at the root.

You will have a window of one to two hours to reattach the entire tooth. You will have longer with a chipped tooth, if reattachment is possible. If you are bleeding, put a cloth in the area until the bleeding subsides after rinsing your mouth with warm water.

What To Do for a Lost Filling or Crown

This will be a different scenario. You should wash the tooth then reapply it with denture adhesive, dental cement, or toothpaste. You can put clove oil on the hole to relieve the pain if you cannot reattach the filling. Generally, fillings are not a great concern but crowns are. If you want to temporarily fill the hole then use tooth wax or cement. You should never put random materials into the hole other than those specified.

Braces can be uncomfortable a day or two after a tightening. You can alleviate the pain by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water and taking acetaminophen as directed.

Debris Between the Teeth

If you cannot remove this debris through flossing then you will have to go the dentist to get it removed. Do you try to force it out as you could loosen a filling.

Burned The Roof of Your Mouth

When this happens, the pain can linger. If you still do not have relief at ten days, then you should visit your dentist. You can also make a mixture of 1/8 teaspoon of salt to eight ounces of water and rinse with it after meals. If you need a pain reliever you can use a topical oral anesthetic.

Bitten Tongue

You can count on a cut less than 1/4 inch to heal itself. Keep the area clean and provide cold compresses. If it doesn't stop bleeding after ten minutes, then you will need to go to the emergency.

As you can see, it's handy to have a 24-hour dentist on speed dial. The above tips should help you to stave off emergency situations by following protocol. You should have a clear idea now of what constitutes an emergency and how to respond until you can get into the emergency dentist.
